THE WAR AGAINST HEZBOLLAH IN LEBANON
Two reservists, Maj. (res.) Harel Birkenstock, 34, and Chief Master-Sgt. (res.) Tamir Vaknin, 33, were killed and four other soldiers were severely injured while searching a booby-trapped building in Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. The IDF accused Hizbullah of a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement and launched a wave of strikes in the area. The IDF said the Lebanese army had failed to prevent residents from returning to the village, as required under the ceasefire arrangement. click here
The IDF’s destruction of Hezbollah’s extensive Beaufort and Ali al-Taher underground network neutralized a key strategic facility designed to launch sustained attacks against Israel. However, IDF officers warn that similar undetected facilities remain across southern Lebanon, which could remain intact if political and diplomatic restrictions prevent further Israeli action. click here

30-year-old Bar Bechor Asraf died by suicide on Saturday at the grave of his childhood friend Liron Barda, who was killed while treating the wounded at the Nova festival. click here

TARGETING GAZA TERRORISTS
While media reports frequently focus on Palestinian casualties in Gaza, they rarely mention that Israeli forces are specifically targeting Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and affiliated operatives—such as Mujahideen Brigades commander Ahmed Hussein Mohammed Kafina and Nukhba commander Mahmoud Fatair—who participated in the October 7 massacre, held hostages, or were actively planning new attacks against troops and civilians. Leveraging evidence from perpetrators’ own recordings and captured records, the IDF releases detailed names and specific actions for those eliminated in these precision strikes, maintaining that military action against active threats must continue regardless of ongoing diplomatic processes.
The IDF “will not relent until we bring every person who played a part in the [Oct. 7] massacre to justice,” IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir said yesterday.

DISARMING HAMAS
The Board of Peace, tasked with overseeing postwar Gaza governance, said on Monday that Israel will need to pull back from territories it currently holds in Gaza only after Hamas’s disarmament. click here
IDF airstrikes on Hamas commanders continued in Gaza, as Israeli officials reiterated that any military withdrawal would depend on Hamas’s complete disarmament. A spokesman said Israeli intelligence assessments indicate Hamas remains committed to rebuilding its military capabilities rather than disarming. ” Disarming means physically giving up the weapons. A day after Trump announced a breakthrough that he predicted would see Hamas relinquish its weapons and power in Gaza, both Israel and Hamas appeared at odds over what was actually agreed to. An Israeli official reiterated that Israel demands genuine demilitarization of Palestinian forces in Gaza before it is willing to pull its troops back.
Hamas said it agreed only to relinquish its heavy weapons – stopping short of a pledge to hand over light arms, such as assault rifles. ” Israel insists that storing weapons inside the Strip does not amount to demilitarization and that it has no intention of withdrawing based on promises or a mechanism that allows weapons to remain in Gaza.
Footnote : According to a Palestinian source, Hamas has begun distributing rifles to its operatives in Gaza. The goal is to ensure that weapons stay in the hands of Hamas members under the guise of personal ownership. “Hamas will not disarm. Period”. click here
Israeli officials remain sceptical of the understandings reached between the Board of Peace and Hamas, noting unresolved details regarding the timeline, recipient, and storage location for surrendered arms…Security officials doubt Hamas can transition into a purely political movement and anticipate the group will evade terms to continue planning attacks.
UN AGENCIES & HAMAS
U.S. officials report that six UN relief agencies operating in Gaza are stonewalling an expanded USAID investigation by withholding requested employee data and records on their interactions with Hamas. The U.S. government condemned this lack of cooperation as unacceptable, emphasizing that taxpayer funds must be prevented from paying the salaries of personnel with ties to terrorism.

An Israeli medical team from the SACH programme recently visited Zambia to assist in ten paediatric open-heart surgeries, mentor local and Tanzanian medical staff, and donate a $200,000 heart-lung machine. This effort is part of a long-standing $3 million initiative aimed at establishing Zambia’s first generation of paediatric cardiac surgeons and building sustainable local healthcare infrastructure. click here

Gaza
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting claimed the IDF had “fallen short” of British military standards in Gaza.
However General Sir John McColl (former NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander) stated after visiting Israel that the IDF’s rules of engagement and operations are rigorous compared to Western allies, operating under extraordinary complexity.
Colonel Richard Kemp (former British commander in Afghanistan) rejected Streeting’s claims, stating the IDF took unprecedented precautions to minimise civilian harm—resulting in a civilian-to-combatant casualty ratio lower than Western actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.
John Spencer (Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at West Point) asserted that Israel has taken more measures to avoid civilian harm than virtually any nation in history fighting an urban war.
Andrew Fox (retired British Army officer) noted that Western nations focus heavily on social media verdicts rather than learning crucial urban warfare lessons from the IDF, which NATO forces may face in future dense urban conflicts.
The UK government should provide clear evidence of specific standards breached rather than relying on political rhetoric or media narratives. click here
Disarming Hamas
Maj. (ret.) Andrew Fox: Despite Trump announcing a agreement for Hamas’s “complete disarmament,” Hamas immediately refuted the claim, illustrating the difficulty of verifying the removal of a hidden, uninventoried arsenal. Furthermore, Western powers fail to recognize that disarming Hamas leaves its extensive political, civil, and administrative infrastructure intact to maintain control over Gaza.
Eyal Dror: Although the International Stabilization Force for Gaza is tasked with facilitating demilitarization, history—such as the exploited Gaza Reconstruction Mechanism and the ineffective UNIFIL presence in Lebanon—suggests international bodies often fail to enforce compliance against entrenched groups. Without a genuine willingness by contributing nations to actively dismantle Hamas’s military power by force, Hamas will simply maintain its control behind the scenes while the international force defaults to preserving the status quo.click here
J Post Editorial: Israel must demand the physical, verifiable, and complete dismantling of Hamas’s military infrastructure before agreeing to any withdrawal or reconstruction process. Accepting mere pledges of future disarmament allows Hamas to use diplomatic delays to preserve its coercive power and prepare for the next conflict.
Fiamma Nirenstein: Israel Cannot Accept a Gaza Deal without Hamas Truly Disarming. He observes that Hamas’s attack inadvertently reinforced Israel’s collective national spirit and highlighted the deep integration of Israeli Arab citizens across key sectors like healthcare and higher education. Consequently, applying the term “apartheid” to Israel ignores these daily realities and oversimplifies a far more complex society.
