Bassam Tawil: The slain (Israeli) police officers were stationed there to ensure the safety of Muslim worshippers. The Palestinian spin doctors are attempting to divert attention from the terror attack by making it look as if the crisis began when Israel installed the metal detectors and not when two police officers were murdered.…In reality, it is the Palestinians themselves who are desecrating the sanctity of the Temple Mount, using the site to launch violent attacks against Jews by hurling stones at Jews praying at the nearby Western Wall. They have also been smuggling various types of weapons into the Temple Mount in order to throw firebombs and stones at Jewish visitors and policemen. The Palestinian leadership and Waqf officials have also encouraged Muslims to harass Jewish visitors and police officers by hurling insults at them.

Mohammed Kaabiya: It is upon us as Arab citizens of Israel to condemn all acts of terror without doubting or blinking, in a loud and clear voice, as well as fighting incitement and those within our society who call for violence. The Palestinian leadership is abusing Islam and its holy site to incite the masses in order to promote their own agenda.

Jonathan S Tobin: How could putting metal detectors to protect a holy site from a recurrence of murder provoke outrage, violence and a promise of mass riots? The answer is that this isn’t about metal detectors. It’s about the right of Jews to be in Jerusalem.

Eli Lake: A prevailing Palestinian narrative about the Al Aqsa Mosque is that Jews are a threat to its preservation. You hear it in the speeches of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he falsely claims Jewish settlers are building tunnels underneath the Temple Mount. He complains of “dirty feet” stepping on this holy ground.
Martin Kramer, a historian, told me that the attack at the Temple Mount broke a taboo. “The usual Islamist claim is the danger to the mosque and the shrine is from Jews,” he said. “Here there was an actual conspiracy to smuggle weapons into this holy place and Hamas does not condemn it, they praise it. Who poses the greater danger to Al Aqsa?”

Benny Avni: This isn’t about metal detectors…PA President Mahmoud Abbas has utilized the Al-Aqsa Mosque to manufacture Palestinian and Muslim rage. In the long run, America’s smart move is to start addressing the follies of manufactured Muslim outrage and holding Abbas and the Palestinians accountable for their incitement.

Honest Reporting:  Several news services sought to equate the murder of three members of the Saloman family stabbed to death in their own home, with the deaths of rioting Palestinians whipped up by their leaders. One of the rioters was reportedly killed by his prematurely exploding petrol bomb.
