INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR THE IDF’S EMERGENCY MEDICAL TEAMS

 

The UN’s World Health Organization has recognized the Israeli army’s field hospital, which is regularly sent abroad to provide aid at natural disaster sites, as “the number one in the world” in a ceremony last week, classifying it as its first and only “Type 3” field hospital, along with some additional “specialized care” recognitions, which technically made it a “Type 3 plus,”

CO-OPERATION WITH ARAB NEIGHBOURS

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon has made a secret visit to Dubai in the UAE to attend a UN development conference in his capacity as chairman of the UN’s Legal Committee, an appointment he received in June. The move is the latest indication of Israel’s effort to inch closer to its Arab neighbours.

AIDS treatment breakthrough by Israeli researchers: A drug developed at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem has been found to decrease the HIV virus count by as much as 97% in just eight days The active ingredient in the drug is a peptide that causes the cell to self-destruct.

In an interview with (Israeli financial daily) Globes, Shlomi Fogel, chairman of the Ampa Capital holding company and chairman and CEO of Israel Shipyards, said that for some time he has been studying with Israeli Jordanian, Egyptian, Palestinian and Gazan businessmen the possibility of setting up industrial zones and free trade areas along the Israel-Gaza border.  Read more

AID FOR HAITI

The day after Hurricane Matthew caused devastation in Haiti last week, Israeli NGO IsraAID and local partner Prodev were the first to provide food and water for hundreds of children and their families…An IsraAID team has been working in Haiti for more than six years, having arrived just after the January 2010 earthquake to help in rescue and recovery operations… Only two months ago, MASHAV, the Israel Foreign Ministry’s agency for international development cooperation, sent a new shipment of medical supplies to re-equip the trauma unit it established in one of Haiti’s main government hospitals three years ago.

Shimon Peres, former president, former prime minister, former defence minister, former foreign minister, former minister of eight other ministries, the last surviving member of Israel’s founding fathers, and winner of the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize died Wednesday after suffering a stroke two weeks ago. He was 93 years old.
